Happy New Year!
Blog Update
This post will represent the first of a monthly series of posts, not unlike last year’s New Month Resolution posts but a bit less rigidly-organized. Each month, you can expect a NMR as usual, along with some combination of blog updates, personal updates, and links, as I decide that month. It’ll be a bit more loosey-goosey, hopefully direct and fun to read more so than was facilitated by the previous format.
For the NMRs: I’ve been reflecting on the project, and want to make this year (Year 2) a little different. Year 1 was the beginning, and I focused on trying new things, experimenting with skill-building or following advice that I was not previously convinced was useful. This year, I want to focus more on solving problems. My big New Year Resolution for 2021 has to do with my drinking habits, a problem very worth solving as soon as possible; similarly, I can solve small problems each month, or at least test out solutions and see if they stick. I’m also going to try to be more strict about sticking to my NMR too, as last year I gave lots of excuses for not following through.
Finally, I’m going to try to write fewer words in talking about the resolutions themselves, as I feel this was interesting for me to write but not so fun to read. A lot of what I post on MetaLevelUp is for me, so this is in principle fine, but I would love it to evolve into something that’s worth reading if you’re not me. Also, I’m convinced that NMRs are a great idea and I’d like to show how accessible it can be. So again, I’ll try to be more direct and give less of a song-and-dance about each NMR.
(Make a small change every month! Take steps in the direction of improvement! You can do it!)
Year 2 will be focused, direct, and consistent. That’s the plan.
I’m also going to start posting these with the Updates tag, so that they don’t dominate the I Did It For Me category.
New Month Resolution
I want to develop better daily habits. I’ll commit to three small resolutions for daily activities, respectively for three aspects of my existence, for the duration of January 2021.
Body: I will walk at least 10,000 steps each day, and will drink no alcohol.
Mind: I will spend 15-30 minutes either (a) reading a physical book or (b) blogging.
Spirit: I will sit in meditation practice for at least 10 minutes each day.
See you next month!
